Brave and Balanced Children offers telehealth across the entire state of Michigan

Q: Why choose telehealth?

A: Perhaps you live in a rural service area like the Upper Peninsula with minimal access to specialized services for your child with anxiety, OCD, or panic. Maybe you live in a busy city like the Grand Rapids area, Ann Arbor, or the metro Detroit area where travel to appointments encounters traffic that is slow and tiresome. Even if you have access to more specialized services for children - for example, in West Michigan - to treat anxiety in children, it could be a long trip each way, making it less feasible to attend consistently. Perhaps your family is very busy where it can be challenging to travel to an appointment around all of the family's other appointments, work, and extracurriculars. Maybe you have a child who struggles with germs, panic, or other fears that make it challenging to go out somewhere initially for treatment. Perhaps you simply feel as though we may be a great fit for treating your child's anxiety or OCD needs. No matter the reason, telehealth therapy at Brave and Balanced Children is a great option!

Q: Can children do telehealth?

A: Yes! There are different ways to approach telehealth treatment that allow this format to be successful in supporting your child toward a braver and more balanced life. For example, parents of younger children may (even with therapists meeting in person) be asked to attend every session with their child to ensure skills are learned by all and more easily generalized to the home. Even older children and younger teens benefit significantly from parent attendance for quicker skill gain. This format of parent and child is generally very successful for telehealth, as the parent also can help support their child's clear communication and interaction. For very young children, parent support sessions can be used to transfer skill so that the parent can become highly effective at supporting their child's bravery and see progress. For children, some benefits of telehealth include being in their own comfortable space and around their own comfortable things. For children with anxiety, this can be a great starting place to allow a sense of relaxation, which makes learning and participation easier.

Telehealth, Where You're At

Did you know that individuals with anxiety respond well to telehealth treatment with the treatment approaches (for example, exposure and response prevention therapy) that Brave and Balanced Children offers? Individuals with anxiety disorders, OCD, and panic are highly responsive to the telehealth format - yes, even children and adolescents! The following treatments are all offered throughout the state of Michigan:

Medical Setting Anxiety Training for Parents

This training is a time-limited (2-4 session) training for parents to provide the tools to prepare yourself to support your young child for common or specialist medical interventions. This can include anything from routine well-child appointments that may trigger anxiety for your child, or specialized treatment for a chronic or short-term health condition. Many parents also benefit from this training to prepare for supporting their child through routine vaccinations, blood draws, or other medical procedures.

Anxiety Disorders

Treatment for anxiety disorders includes generalized anxiety, phobias, school anxiety, separation anxiety, and many others.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

At Brave and Balanced Children, we have the training and skills to help your child reduce their compulsions and rituals so they no longer feel controlled by their symptoms of OCD throughout their day.

Panic Disorders

Panic attacks can make it difficult to function. We are able to effectively treat anxiety and panic disorders via telehealth to have a lasting impact on how your child manages their symptoms.
